The Mindset of Excellence in Collaboration 30 August - 1 September 2025

JPSurveys celebrated the 68th Merdeka Day in Melaka, in a special way. We organized a team-building event themed “The Mindset of Excellence in Collaboration”. Yes, it is a mouth-full, but it turned out to be something magical to all of us.

The 3 days 2 nights event was thought to be filled with boring PowerPoint slides and endless theories. To our surprise, there was not a single slide. Instead, on the first day, we were “entertained” by games after games, many of which brought out the childhood within us. The games, not only brought laughter on their faces, but also brought the colleagues closer. They discussed, they planned, they shared. All these values were learnt and appreciated through these activities, without them realizing it.

A treasure hunt at the crowded Jonker Street saw them building their trust and support that we never see before. They sweat under hot sun and some return with a limping foot, but all teams came back and none of them give up under such stressful situation. They were rewarded with a great dinner and some of them break out to enjoy some shopping time, while others trying to find a nice spot for the fireworks display at count-down to Merdeka. Of course, many called it a night to heal the sore muscles, getting ready for the next day’s challenge.

On the second day, the bond between the team members deepened. They sang the national day songs with great enthusiasm in rhythm with the waving flags. More challenging games awaits them. Calling their “visually-impaired” members home without using words was a test of focus and trust. Untying a human chain called for leadership, and the happiness shown when they successfully untied was priceless. Making the longest pipe with limited resources required careful planning and discipline. They discussed different ideas, tested different methods and finally decided on one and charge forward with that. Everyone contributed, not a single person was left out in the cold. That’s team work! The final fashion show brought out the creativity in all of us. Looking at their serious expression, you knew that would be a master piece. At the end, winners were announced but you don’t see any disappointment in the “losers”. The smiles and non-stop giggles only meant one thing, everyone had got what they came here for – fun, food and friendship. That’s what mattered most.

All magical moments came to an end but given the lessons learnt in these 3 days, I believe they will cherish them and hold tight to their hearts. Thank you Vince, Yvonne and YY for doing such a good job. Thank you, Sharon and Redzuan for ensuring all the details were take care of. And most important person to thank are all the participants. You made the event what it is. Thanks again.
